If you go to Pisa you can't miss  the Museum of the ancients Boats.
it’s an archaeological museum in progress because  the  works  are not completed. It shows an ancient roman harbour near S. Rossore rail station not far from the leaning tower. In December 1998 during some works to build a new railway , some ancient roman boats were found, they remain  in a perfect state of preservation. The absence of oxygen and the absence of water-bearing stratum prevent the deterioration of the wood .  this exceptional discovery provoked  a big iternational resounding and it was the reason why the township of Pisa decided to exhibit them in a Museum  Therefore the site became a real open museum with the purpose to show  the activity of digging and restauration even to  the visitors:
the museum can be visited even during the work of the archeologistes . The path is designed to let  see to the visitors the places where the ships are found, restaurated and prepared for the future exhibition, meanwhile in the display cabinet there are the finds of the latest researches.
